Orange BBQ Ribs

Lately, I have been really into using oranges for marinades, sweets and glazes and now this recipe, for ribs. These ribs are fall off the bone phenomenal. I was gifted a Traeger Grill from my step dad and it is freaking awesome. A lot of people like to smoke their meat on a Big Green Egg, but personally I like the Traeger. It is easier to adjust the temperature for this beginner meat smoker. You can choose all kinds of different flavored wood pellets, I use the applewood pellets for this particular recipe. I serve a homemade red potato salad and Mac and cheese with the ribs to round this dinner out.

Ingredients:

Smoker

3 lb pork ribs- Membrane on back removed (if you don’t know how to do it, YouTube it!)

2 cups orange juice

2 tablespoons orange zest

1/2 cup yellow mustard

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

3 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce

4 tablespoons grill mates applewood seasoning or whatever pork seasoning you would like to use

Marinade Brush (to mop the sauce into the ribs while cooking)

Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil

Directions:

Heat smoker to 180 degrees with lid closed for 15 min. Remove the membrane on the back of the ribs if your butcher has not done this for you yet. Cover top and bottom sides of ribs with the seasoning. In a small mixing bowl whisk together the mustard, Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 cup orange juice, orange zest and 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar. Mop all over the ribs, top and bottom. Add the ribs, meat side up, directly onto the grate of the smoker. Smoke for 3 hours. Mix together 1/2 cup orange juice, 1/2 cup water, and 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar. During these three hours, once every hour you will mop or spritz the ribs with a orange juice apple cider vinegar mixture.

Whisk together orange juice and your favorite BBQ sauce. Get a pretty big sheet of aluminum foil and pour the bbq mixture onto it. After the 3 hours are up, put the ribs, meat side down onto the foil. close the foil around the ribs. Place a cookie sheet onto the grates and then put the aluminum foil covered ribs on it. Turn the heat up to 225 degrees. Cook for 2 hours. 2 times during the cooking process spritz or mop the orange juice mixture onto the ribs. you want to keep them moist.

After the two hours, remove from aluminum foil and put back directly onto the cookie sheet. Cooking for about 40-60 min. Remove and Let sit for a few min and then cut and serve!
